Due to the proximity of the usual launching date of the new call for entries for the IX edition of the CUVO International Video Art Festival, we feel the need to publish this official communiqué as a way of clarifying the present and future activities of the festival.
First of all, we find it as necessary as cautious to announce that, for the time being, our annual regime of publication of new calls for entries is suspended. The main reason for this decision is the inverse proportionality that we have found between the increase of participating artists, which has been increasing with each new edition, and the scarce institutional support that the festival has found within our country. In this sense, the invaluable collaboration of the Francisco Sobrino Museum of Guadalajara requires special praise, without which the festival would not have been able to have the regional projection that motivated its creation almost a decade ago.
In the same way we also want to show our gratitude to all the creators who were encouraged to participate in each of the open calls and, more personally, to the fifty artists who have been part of the festival throughout its eight editions; without them, the existence and excellence of this modest attempt to disseminate and recognize the practice of video art would not have been possible either.
Regarding the future, we would also like to clarify that our commitment to the dissemination of this still emerging medium is not necessarily coming to an end. On the contrary, we believe that given the lack of institutional follow-up of video art, it is more necessary than ever to disseminate projects that share the spirit of CUVO. For this reason we want to show our support and follow up to two different initiatives: The EROS International Competition organized by the Medinaceli Art Foundation in Soria and the project of the future gallery MÁLAGA VIU. Two proposals, each with its own geographical and thematic peculiarity, that continue the CUVO tradition of bringing video art to a wider public.
Sincerely,
CUVO International Video Art Festival
